As a lifelong learner, my career and academia have always been intertwined and mutually progressed. I began my studies at the University of Toronto, completing an Honors Bachelor of Science degree in human biology and anthropology, honing my academic writing and critical analysis skills. The life sciences interest led me into nursing studies at Humber College, first completing the RPN diploma program, then a Bachelor of Nursing with University of New Brunswick, and ultimately achieving my designation as a Registered Nurse. Now I am working toward my Master of Nursing degree at the University of Athabasca.

I have worked as an Emergency department nurse in the Greater Toronto Area for 5 years, initially as an RPN at the Richmond Hill hospital, now an RN in the Vaughan hospital, both of which rank among the busiest EDs in the GTA as the population of the surrounding areas has exploded in the past decade and driven healthcare demands to overwhelmed levels. Part of my interests in the Master program are learning about healthcare and systems management with hopes that I can someday affect change in a system that seems to be falling apart. My advocacy work has begun with some recent publications in the Toronto Star on the current nursing crisis, and I hope to continue to use my writing to inspire change.

My passion in learning eventually translated into teaching, leading me back to Humber College as a clinical instructor for nursing students, as well as serving as a preceptor on my ED unit. I juggle a variety of roles, between clinical work as an ED RN, academic work of a Master student, teaching the new generation as an instructor, and advocating for my profession as a writer and speaker.
